Aluminium products manufacturer 'saved millions' using Six Sigma

A firm based in South Africa that manufactures aluminium products used Six Sigma principles in order to make major economic savings.

According to a report by iol.co.za, Hulamin boosted its balance sheet by around R50 million (£4 million) as a result of taking advantage of the management strategy.

It brought in specialists in order to train members of staff in the tool and was able to achieve steady growth of the business, as well as an increase in productivity.

De Beers affiliate Element Six, which manufactures materials including synthetic diamonds for industrial applications, is another of the country's companies to have used Six Sigma in recent times and enjoyed success as a result.

Each member of staff at the organisation received training in Six Sigma due to the firm's decision to use the management strategy to boost efficiency.

Six Sigma was pioneered by Motorola in the 1980s and is currently enjoying a surge in popularity.
