Firm uses lean processing when rebuilding facility

Lean processing has been at the heart of plans by a firm to become more efficient.

Avenue Collision CSN has been taken over by Lorenzo, Frank and John D'Alessandro and the trio used lean methods when rebuilding the organisation's collision repair facility.

According to a report by Collision Repair Magazine, the family elected to install a lift at the site, due to the fact this would improve efficiency.

"The elevator helped form a lean vision. It was an essential part of the plan. It's influenced the way the car comes in and goes out and where departments are located," said Lorenzo D'Alessandro, adding the firm's boiler-fired heating system was replaced to free up space in the workshop.

Last month, fire detection solutions manufacturer Apollo collaborated with printed circuit board and contract electronics manufacturer eXception Group to use lean methods when overhauling its supply chain.
