Process industry in the North of England

The Northern Way (a collaboration of the regional development agencies for the North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humber regions) has provided funding to encourage companies to access help for their innovation and operational excellence. Support comes from a collaboration of picme, CIKTN and Britest. Any process manufacturer in the North of England may receive initial consultation free of charge, the following being an example:

  • Initial discussion on challenges where help may be required.
  • One day on-site assessment of current capabilities and practices.
  • Pff-site analysis of data gathered.
  • Half day management workshop to discuss findings and consider ways forward.
  • Finalised report, proposals and possible further sources of support.

Many companies have benefited enormously from this programme including;

  • A DuPont business has learnt how to substantially reduce operating costs for a new facility.
  • Lucite International has learnt how to halve the duration of plant shutdowns.
  • Johnson Matthey Catalysts are averaging an additional 29% plant output.
  • Authentix is learning how to introduce manufacturing excellence into a laboratory manufacturing environment.
  • A Degussa plant has halved its cleanout time for product changes.
  • Polypipe
  • Britest quick win case study.
  • Baker Petrolite
  • Mast
